In this book a lot of innocent people lost their homes and lives because of the rebels. The rebels hunted down every village near and far and burned it to the ground. Tghe author Ishmael Beah wrote about his experiencein the war that was being held between the rebels and the towns people. During time Ishmael and his posse tried their hardest to survive, they achieved this by running to the closest shelters only to be chased out of it again and again. They did not have it easy because everyone that saw Ishmael and his friends didn't accept them in their homes due to the fact that they looked like the rebels, did what they wanted when they wanted to do it, and they were homeless. The boys were trying tosurvive and at the same time they were looking for their families;which was relly hard because the rebels were hot on their trail.

.... continued.... He strayed in a large unfinuished brick house in the village the RUF were curently occupying. Ishmael, Alhaji, Jumah, Moriba, and Kenei stayed there with several other boys between the ages of 7 to 16. The boys had no choise but to share mats with the others because there weren't enough for everybody and they had to sleep on cold cement floors ,which were obiously dirty and deffinately uncofortable especially at night. If they wanted to eat they had to eat what was given to them, otherwise they would get a bullet in the head. The entertainment was pretty simple, all they did most of the nights was tell stories and talk about their worry of theyr families, which is really sad when you think about it.Ishmael on the other hand had strange headaches and visions of women and children crying because they just lost their fathers ,mothers, grandparents, husbends and boyfriends, and screaming while running for their lives. They deffinetly did not have it easy because they were forced to hurt those they loved dearly.
